Lots of fun and learning happened on the weekend of October 18-19, 2024, when Soroptimist International of Woodland hosted the Sierra Nevada Region Fall District 2 meeting. It was a great turnout, with six clubs bringing together 41 participants. The weekend began on Friday evening with a social gathering at Mojo's back patio, where we played a game of Soroptimist Jeopardy, shared appetizers, and poked fun at our answers. On Saturday morning, upon arrival at Kitchen428's upstairs meeting room, the attendees were asked to write a short statement on a paper cutout of a bird and place it on a beautiful ceramic tree displayed at the entrance. This allowed attendees to focus on why they became Soroptimists. Jennifer Young, District 2 Director's theme, "Let's Take Flight," inspired the task. Some of the answers were then read throughout the day.
The day was filled with outstanding presentations given by the SNR leadership team. Governor Stacy Jensen gave members an overview of the new SIA website and a short introduction to the new UpliftHer initiative projects that she hopes the clubs will include in their future work. The day was filled with valuable information and presentations that sparked our reasons for becoming Soroptimists. We heard from other SNR committee chairs regarding Membership, Fundraising, Public Awareness, and Programs. The Soroptimist Pledge was SIW's educational activity that brought about lots of laughs. Seeing all the tables so engrossed in ensuring they got the pledge correct was quite funny. The day ended with a greater appreciation for what each club is doing with our shared mission. Can't wait for our next district meeting to be scheduled soon.
