Our literacy outreach project, ABC – Books for Kinders, returned in 2023. The goal of the project is to foster a love of reading and encourage the students to read over the summer.

The Club is registered as a Scholastic Literacy Partner, which allows the committee to purchase books at a greatly reduced price to distribute to the kindergarteners in the Woodland Joint Unified School District’s 12 elementary schools.

Members of the Club then take turns reading to all 700+ kinder students and each student chooses a book to take home. Bookplates with the Soroptimist Logo are placed in the inside cover of each book and the students are able to their names in their books.

 

It is always a rewarding experience for the members, and the teachers all express their appreciation for the project.
